Tallow Shampoo & Body Bar

Inspired by traditional methods of rendering and combining fats with simple ingredients — a return to older ways of cleansing, long before modern detergents and synthetic additives.

Root Revival honours two kinds of roots — the roots of your hair, and the traditional roots of living close to the land.

Root Revival is both a shampoo and body bar — simple, versatile, and effective. Because it is a concentrated solid bar rather than a bottle diluted with water, it typically lasts far longer than conventional liquid shampoos.

What It Is

Root Revival is a cold-process shampoo and body bar hand crafted using locally sourced grass fed, hormone free beef tallow and carefully chosen plant oils, organic essential oils and natural mica for colour.

The tallow is rendered in-house in small batches using a traditional four-stage process for purity, smoothness, and stability. 

Organic peppermint and rosemary essential oils provide a fresh, invigorating experience while supporting the scalp and leaving hair and skin feeling clean and refreshed.

The Formula

Sodium Tallowate (Tallow)
A traditional soapmaking fat that produces a creamy, stable lather while helping maintain the skin's natural moisture balance.

Sodium Cocoate (Coconut Oil)
Provides cleansing power and abundant lather.

Sodium Avocadate (Organic Avocado Oil)
Adds conditioning properties that help hair and skin feel soft and balanced.

Sodium Castorate (Organic Black Castor Oil)
Supports lather stability and contributes to scalp conditioning.

Organic Peppermint Essential Oil
Cooling and invigorating for the scalp.

Organic Rosemary Essential Oil
Traditionally associated with scalp vitality.

Glycerin (Naturally Occurring)
Produced during soapmaking and retained in the bar to support moisture.

Mica is used for natural colour.

What It Does

Root Revival helps:

• Produce a creamy, conditioning lather suitable for both hair and body

Each bar also includes a natural loofah round for gentle exfoliation and improved lather.

Transitioning from Conventional Shampoo

If you are switching from liquid shampoos, your hair may go through a short adjustment period.

Many conventional hair products leave behind silicone and synthetic coatings that traditional soap does not immediately remove. As those residues lift away, hair may temporarily feel heavier or waxy.

This is buildup releasing — not the bar failing.

To support the transition:

during the first few weeks to help loosen and remove residual buildup.

Many people also choose to do the apple cider vinegar rinse on its own after shampooing, as a simple conditioning rinse. Mix 1–2 tablespoons raw apple cider vinegar with 1 cup warm water and pour slowly over the scalp. Allow it to sit for 30–60 seconds, then rinse thoroughly.

Dry shampoo can also be helpful during this transition.  Most people find their hair adjusts within 2–4 weeks.

How to Use

Wet hair and bar thoroughly.

Rub the bar directly onto wet hair and scalp. Add a small amount of water and massage — a creamy luxurious lather will develop as you work it through.

Rinse thoroughly.

Can also be used as a body bar.

Allow the bar to dry fully between uses to extend its life. Each bar includes a natural loofah pad to help exfoliate and to keep it dry between uses.  Mama Bear also has bamboo soap dishes available.
